MEET THE MAKER

Hey! I’m Emma Butler — CEO of J&E Meats and the creator of Camden Tallow. I love makeup, I love being glam, and I’m also a farm girl with postpartum skin, barn dust, and weather that constantly leaves me dry and dull. Camden Tallow was my answer to all of it.
These products helped me get my glow back — and I hope they help you feel confident in the skin you’re already shining in. Let’s beef up your skincare.
MY CAMDEN TALLOW STORY
THESE PRODUCTS SAVED MY SKIN
Yes, this is a real photo of me — and yes, it was as painful and crappy as it looks. Long story short, we switched to a heavy-duty cleaning soap in our butcher shop. It was totally odourless, so I didn’t think twice… until 10–15 minutes later when my eyes got insanely itchy. The next morning I woke up with my eyes swollen shut and my lips huge. Terrifying, uncomfortable, and honestly? It sucked.
I had no idea it was the soap. I changed all my makeup, kept a food journal, did all the “normal” things — even made multiple emergency room trips, only to get pill-pushed with no real answers.
It wasn’t until I shared my story on Instagram that a customer messaged me. She had the exact same reaction and told me to look for an ingredient called propylene glycol — a chemical hiding in tons of cleaners, cosmetics and, you guessed it, the soap we were using. Turns out if you’re allergic, the fumes attack your sweat glands and sensitive areas.

Once I finally figured out the source, we got rid of that soap immediately. The problem was the residue — it was everywhere on our cut floor: equipment, walls, the whole space. It took 2–3 weeks of wash-downs (my amazing staff kept me out of the room) before it was completely gone. I was still having minor flare-ups just from the lingering fumes, but once everything was cleaned and I tossed the makeup products that also contained the chemical, the reactions stopped.
But my skin? Absolutely trashed.
No more swelling, but red, raw, peeling, painfully dry — especially my lips and the crease of my neck. After four rounds of prescriptions (I’m a natural girlie, but desperate times…), my skin was still a disaster.
And what did I reach for?
My Camden Tallow products.
This issue did not resolve overnight, this was my entire summer of 2023. It was so irritating because the sunshine made it worse, attending weddings and events when I just wanted to look cute and go on dates with my husband when my skin looked like this was annoying. I recognize my extreme privilege and that some people have things so much worse - but for me this was a bane in my existence.
The first thing I grabbed for was my Camden Tallow products. The last thing I needed was to put something on my skin, laden with chemicals and ingredients I can't pronounce and risk another major flare up. I used the Nourishing wash, Slather lotion and Lip Refresher all daily; and at night I used the body Whip (it takes a bit longer to soak in). Slowly but surely, I saw my skin heal and improve.

INSPIRED TO MAKE NEW PRODUCTS
My skin is so much better now. I still get the occasional dry-lip moment, but honestly, winter does that to most of us — and after everything my skin went through, I’m sure there was deeper damage that just needed time.
As you know, I’m a natural skincare girlie. I don’t use chemicals in my home, and I don’t even take Tylenol. I always reach for dense nutrients, plants, and — of course — animal fat first. During all of this, I started adding pure lavender essential oil to my Slather Lotion to help calm and heal my skin.
At some point I thought… why don’t we just make a lavender-infused line?
Lavender has incredible calming and healing benefits — soothing irritation, itching, redness, and dryness — so it just made sense to blend it with our beef tallow.
And that’s how the Lavender Phase collection was born.
PURE INGREDIENTS. NO SECRETS.
We use our own farm-raised tallow and clean, natural ingredients. Nothing extra. Nothing hidden.

WHY THE NAME “CAMDEN TALLOW”?
Camden Tallow is a tribute to our roots. Our family has lived and farmed on this land for nearly a century. The farm was originally part of Camden Township — where Josh’s grandfather, Robert Butler, began our family’s story in 1930.
When we created this skincare line, we wanted a name that honoured our history, our land, and the generations who built this farm with intention and hard work.
Camden Tallow is our nod to where it all began — and the legacy we’re proud to continue.
*We somberly acknowledge and respect that our land before us, was the home of the Anishinabewaki ᐊᓂᔑᓈᐯᐗᑭ peoples.
